Hamburg slip up at Stuttgart, Bremen and Leverkusen draw - Summary

Hamburg - SV Hamburg missed the chance to draw level with VfL Wolfsburg at the top of the Bundesliga Sunday after going down 1- 0 at VfB Stuttgart while in the day's other match Werder Bremen drew 1-1 with Bayer Leverkusen. Mario Gomez was the hero for Stuttgart, netting the winner in the second minute of added time - his 15th goal of the season - to maintain the southern German club's slim title hopes.
Ivica Olic came closest for Martin Jol's side, hammering a shot off the crossbar just before the break, but the loss sees Hamburg stay third on 51 points, level with defending champions Bayern Munich but three behind Wolfsburg.
Munich bounced back from a midweek Champions League mauling by Barcelona by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 Saturday while Wolfsburg registered their ninth win in a row, prevailing 2-1 at Borussia Moenchengladbach.
Hertha Berlin lost 2-0 at Hanover 96 and stay fourth on 49 points.
Stuttgart's win sees Markus Babbel's side move to within a point of Hertha.
"I was happy after 90 minutes with a point and for such a thing to happen in the final minute was bitter," said Jol.
Babbel, meanwhile, said his side had got the victory they deserved.
"We got our reward in the end," he said. "There was a lot of emotion, the stadium exploded, just like us."
In the day's other match, Swiss international Tranquillo Barnetta put Leverkusen in front after just 11 minutes at home to Bremen, with a firm strike from just inside the area.
However, Claudio Pizarro equalized for the visitors on 33 minutes, stooping to head home Aaron Hunt's cross from the right.
The result was of little use to either team with Leverkusen staying ninth and Bremen remaining 10th.
"This 1-1 draw doesn't help us," said Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voeller. "We played well today but we have look at our results at home."
Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf was more relaxed about the result.
"We played against a strong opponent today," he said. "Both teams had chances and the result was a fair one."
In other Saturday games, Schalke 04 moved closer to an UEFA Cup place with a 2-0 victory at home against Karlsruhe while Energie Cottbus enjoyed a 2-1 victory against fellow-strugglers Arminia Bielefeld.
Hoffenheim continued their downward slide with a 3-0 defeat at home against VfL Bochum, while Borussia Dortmund came from behind to beat Cologne 3-1earthtimes.org
